What’s Happening at Zion this Sunday?

With summer upon us, we are transitioning into “summer church”. Although we are meeting at 10 AM as usual, there are a few refreshing additions/changes. Janice is rounding up some really awesome musicians to sing and play for us as we worship, children will be given “activity bags” to have with them during the service, and Jane will not wear her heavy black robe (OK, that’s not THAT exciting but she is looking forward to it…..).

This Sunday is Memorial Day Sunday and we will remember those who have died in the past year and we will recognize our veterans. Be sure not to miss this important moment in our church life.

Jane’s sermon is called “Needed: Editor. Must Have Experience with Ancient Greek, Papyrus Fragments, and Jesus.” Hmmm…. Sounds like she was a little frustrated with the text (again!) this week. Come and hear the sermon and see if it lives up to its title.

You will receive a brochure explaining and describing the reading list for the summer. In September, we will have a 6 week Adult Sunday School class discussing the grieving process. Be sure to pick up the brochure so you will know what to read!

See you in the Pews!!

This Sunday at Zion Church

We will start our morning with a light breakfast of pastries, coffee, and juice (8:30-9:00). Join us for breakfast and then take your coffee and food on into Sunday school.

Adult Sunday school will begin their three week study on “Church Music: History and Method” Janice and Jane will be leading this interesting seminar. This Sunday we will watch a documentary on Fanny Crosby, author of over 10,000 hymns—many of which we sing every Sunday. You can also pick up your reading packet for the following week. See you at 9:00 in the church library!

What about kids at church this Sunday? The children will start off with a children’s sermon with Pastor Jane and then go downstairs to make “Mother’s Day” crafts. Don’t let your kids miss out on all that they can learn in church!

The 10:00 service will focus on the story of the Road to Emmaus—Luke 24:13-35. Jane’s sermon “On the Road Again” explores what it might mean to “meet Jesus” as the disciples did on the road. We will end our service with the beautiful hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms”.

A “Mother’s Day Chocolate and Coffee” hour will follow the church service. Choose from a variety of wonderful chocolates and gourmet coffee as you talk with friends! A perfect appetizer before heading off to a Mother’s Day Brunch.

At 2:00 Sunday afternoon, the students of Janice Gibson will perform in their spring recital. Come early and stay late (there will be cookies by Don and Vivian).

See you in the Pews!!

Pastor Jane
