Advent @ Zion!

Advent is upon us! Your church staff has been planning for Advent these past few weeks, and here are some of the highlights:

Worship at Zion during Advent will include a sermon series by Jane on the characters of Christmas.

November 27 – “Wise Women Wonder” is a sermon about the experiences of Mary and Elizabeth as they ponder the news of the angel Gabriel and their own role in the coming of the Messiah.

December 4 – “The Case of the Reluctant Innkeeper” – Was there really an innkeeper? Why did the gospel writer so carefully include the part about “no room in the inn?” What do we turn away in our lives that might keep the Messiah outside of our existence?

December 11 – “You Left the Sheep?!” – This sermon is based on the possible response of the shepherd’s wife when her husband comes home to say he has been to Bethlehem to see the Saviour.

December 18 – This will be Zion’s Annual Christmas Pageant. The pageant at Zion is unlike any you have ever seen! It has been compared to an off-off Broadway play!

Christmas Eve at 7pm is a worship service you don’t want to miss!!

But, in addition to an inspiring worship experience, we will have a fascinating study during Adult Sunday School on the “oils of anointment” found throughout the Bible. John Riessen will lead us through this study and even provide Biblical oils for us to sample. The study will lead nicely into the Christmas season as we discuss frankincense and myrrh.

And, finally, we will be decorating the church at the NOIZ Nites / All-Church Advent Workshop on Wednesday, November 30, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Be there for this joyous start to the season of Advent!!

Just a reminder that we are planning a tribute to all of Zion’s veterans on Sunday, Nov. 13, during our morning worship service.

Please submit a photo of any veteran in uniform who is affiliated with Zion. We would like you to include the name, branch of service, and years of enlistment, as well as information about any combat tours of duty or wars served in.

The photo will be scanned and available for you to pick up on or after November 13. You can give the photo to Craig Neises or leave it in the church office as soon as possible.

We would like to have all of our veterans included in the tribute.

Thank you.
