Just a reminder – If you haven’t brought your pictures yet for your graduate, please do so in the next day or two! We want to include ALL graduates — both high school and college — in our special PowerPoint presentation this coming Sunday, May 20. We would like to have a couple childhood pictures, along with the senior picture. Please include the graduate’s name, school, and future plans.

You may bring them to the church, if you prefer. Sandy will scan them and return them to you. Or you may just email them to sandralevins or to the church at ucczionbur.

Please take care of this as soon as possible so your graduate will be part of our special presentation!

Thank you.

Upcoming Adult Sunday School

Every Sunday in May Rod Botts is presenting a class on the environment. This interesting class explores our faithful response as Christians and as members of the UCC to the environmental concerns facing the planet.

June, July and August

Judy Winkelpleck is hosting “Breakfast with Judy”. One Sunday each month of the summer, Judy will serve breakfast and teach a class called “Angels in the Bible”.

September and October

Jerry Goddard will be leading a class on “Forgiveness”. His class will be proceeded by a reading list to be distributed in early June.

Pastor Jane will teach a 3 week class on UCC polity–“Who We Are and Why We Do What We Do”. Everything you ever wanted to know about our awesome denomination.

In the weeks of Advent, Janice will teach a class on liturgical music and give a lesson on the pipe organ.

We are always looking for new ideas for Adult Sunday School. Do you have a topic you would like us to explore? Or would you like to teach a class yourself? You can teach a one-day class or a 6-week class–it is up to you! All input and feedback is welcome!!

An Urgent Need

Dear Members of Zion Church,

As you know, our Social Justice committee has begun a relationship with North Hill, our neighborhood school. Today the school nurse called us because a single mom (works full time)and three children have been living in a van. The school is assisting in many ways but has asked Zion if we could provide food ( our food pantry is well stocked so that is easy) and clothes for the children. We have lots of adult clothes but very few clothes for kids. The children are:

a girl in 4th grade, another girl in 7th grade, and a boy age 5. The 4th grade girl came to school this morning without shoes–clean socks but no shoes.

I am meeting with the family and school officials this afternoon.

There are several ways to help this family– drop off clothes at the church, donate money and a member of Social Justice will purchase clothes, or give a gift certificate to a store such as Target. We could also give money directly to North Hill to be used for the family. I am impressed with the immediate and compassionate response of North Hill’s principal and staff.

This seems like a family truly deserving of help– let’s show them what it means to have a church for a neighbor.

Pastor Jane
