Long a supporter of the Burlington Area Homeless Shelter, and after months of frustration over how it was being run, Zion United Church of Christ is once again helping to provide assistance to people who need a warm bed and a roof to sleep under.

This morning’s issue of The Hawk Eye carried a front page article in which Pastor Jane Willan was front and center. Jane will be president of the shelter’s reconstituted board of directors.

“I’m really psyched,” Jane told the newspaper. “It’s a wonderful board, and I think really good things are going to happen.”

She said the church would resume its financial support for the shelter, which had been suspended over concerns about management.

Other churches, including Zion’s neighbor, First Presbyterian Church, also have been involved in working to get the shelter back on a good footing. Harmony Bible Church and Trinity Lutheran Church also are represented on the new board, according to The Hawk Eye.

Volunteers have been busy working to get the shelter back open by July 1. To pitch in, call Char Blodgett, the shelter’s director, at (319) 572-8078. Financial support can be sent to 123 N. Marshall St., or P.O. Box 713 in Burlington.
